Very tall evergreen tree, which can reach up to 100 meters in height, with ash-colored bark, alternate oval and leathery leaves, small white or slightly pink flowers. The whole plant gives off a persistent balsamic scent. In Europe it grows along the coasts and in the humid soils of central Italy, Spain and Portugal.
The essential oil is obtained from the leaves and from the young twigs with the method of steam distillation and an almost colorless liquid is obtained that gives off an intense perfume.
